This morning, the world woke up to the horrific news of an Air Raid on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City by the Israeli forces. The bombardment on the hospital which was at full capacity has resulted in the killing of over 800 people and injuring thousands, including Doctors, health staff, the wounded, and civilians seeking shelter.

The death toll could be among the highest for a single Israeli air strike since 2008 and this outrageous targeting of civilians must be condemned.

Since the escalation of violence on October 7, over 3,000 lives have been tragically lost, almost 12,000 wounded and close to a million displaced in the Gaza Strip. The situation is dire, and immediate international intervention is imperative.

As a representative body of the Muslim community in Queensland, the Queensland Muslims Inc. (QMI) expresses its disappointment over the Australian government’s handling of the Crisis. In our press release published on 09/10/2023, we had warned the Australian Government that issuing the statement ‘Israel has the right to defend itself’ is equivalent to handing Israel a ‘License to commit genocide’ and we are now
seeing a genocide unfold.

The lives of innocent civilians warrant protection in all circumstances, Australia as a nation should take lead in de-escalating the situation in the Gaza Strip. The QMI calls upon our government to take these humanitarian actions immediately:

  • Call for an immediate ceasefire.
  • Facilitate a humanitarian corridor into Gaza.
  • Acknowledge the loss of Palestinian lives since the escalation of violence.
  • Show empathy by acknowledging that the Muslim Community is in pain.

You will find that these Humanitarian demands from the Muslim community are not too much to ask for.
